Let it snow?

January and February 2026 promises to potentially be a snowy couple of months. Of course that’s very exciting for the snowman building, snowball fight demographic – but here’s some tips to avoid getting stuck in the snow on your way to visit us at Yewdale Cottage.

  1. Keep an eye on snow warnings

It’s always best to keep an eye on the weather forecast to ensure that you don’t get caught on your way. For many, St Davids is a fair old drive and the weather can change very quickly. It’s a good idea to have as much knowledge as possible before you make the trip.

2. Keep to a reasonable speed

Snow and ice can be very hard to see and often the road is slippier than you might imagine. Never exceed the speed limit and be very aware that there could be crashes on the road. If you see a car in front with their hazards on, it’s a good idea to slow right down as there may be an accident.

3. Bring supplies and food

You never know, even with good planning you just might get stuck. In general the motorways are fine but from Carmarthen onwards the roads get windier and narrower. And from Haverfordwest they can become quite dangerous. So always be prepared incase you are stuck in your car for a few hours. Snacks could be a life saver if the worst does happen.

4. Check your car before you leave

Things like water pressure and coolant are vital to be checked before you leave. Coolant warms your car up as well as cooling it down so always make sure you are stocked up. Tyre pressure is important incase you hit a pothole. With flatter tyres you are far more likely to get a puncture.

If in doubt, do not travel. Get in touch with myself and we will see if we can extend your stay. Your safely is our primary concern!

Parking at Yewdale Cottage

One of our main FAQ’s from guests is the parking situation at Yewdale Cottage, St Davids. We totally understand it too. The last thing you need after a lengthy car journey is to search endlessly for a parking space!

So here’s our guide to parking in and around the cottage :

Loading in and out – As the road is wide enough, it is totally acceptable to pull in outside the front gate and unload all your belongings. As long as you don’t stay there indefinitely this is fine. It’s also super handy to get all your baggage and luggage into the cottage.

Long stay – As you will see, we have a car park directly opposite the cottage. Yey! It’s around £30 for the week and that’s probably the most convenient thing to do if you want somewhere very close that you can come and go as you please. There are always spaces so you will never have to worry about struggling to find a space.

Short stay (free!) – If you go past the cottage and follow the road round to the right and then take an immediate right, you can often find a space tucked into the wall on the right. There isn’t always spaces, especially in peak season, but you will usually find one when St Davids isn’t too busy.

So – Very convenient parking! Just another reason to come and stay with us at Yewdale Cottage, St Davids.

The bedroom breakdown

The Master Bedroom

We get asked a lot about how many people the cottage can sleep. By law, we have to say six. But the truth is that you can definitely squeeze at least one more in!

So here is the breakdown of the bedrooms!

The Master (pictured) :

This is the biggest of all the bedrooms and is a comfortable double. It also has beautiful views of the cathedral and is closest to the upstairs toilet! From the south facing window you also have a lovely view of the garden. The room also has a sink which is very useful for a morning shave!

The downstairs bedroom :

This is a slightly smaller double but you can easily fit two in here. Again, we have wonderful views of the cathedral from its window. There is also a dressing table and plenty of storage for clothes.

Bedroom number two :

This is upstairs and an immediate left at the top of the stairs. It is a wonderfully bright room with lovely cathedral views (if you look from an angle!) This has a single bed in it but also has the potential for someone (likely a child) to sleep on the floor.

The landing bedroom :

We also have a single bed which is curtained off from the rest of the house. You will find this as soon as you get up the stairs. It’s a lovely little space with a night light and wonderful views of the garden and The Rams Head.

So please bring all the family and have a wonderful holiday in our self-catering cottage in St Davids.
