Pooches in Pembrokeshire

If you’re anything like us, then part of the joy of the holiday is watching your canine companion racing up and down the beach. The way they react to the waves and the sea is one of life’s true moments of happiness.

But there are certain restrictions on dogs in St Davids depending on when you visit.

The most dog friendly beach is Caerfai Bay, which is the closest beach to Yewdale Cottage. All season round you can bring your pooch and it’s not a problem. It is a little (and steep) walk from the car park so if your dog has mobility issues, it could be a problem.

Whitesands (for our money) is the best beach in the world (!) and ideal for dogs to come scampering up and down. However, the local council operate a no dogs policy from May through till September. This is when the beach is busiest.

But in general cafes and restaurants are very accommodating of dogs and you might even find they have treats especially for your furry friend.

We love dogs and would never stop you from bringing them on holiday. We do charge a little extra as often the cleaners have to work that little bit longer when there’s dog hair to clean up.

We also ask that the dogs are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs. But apart from that, the cottage is a paradise for dogs. There’s even a private garden outside where they can sunbathe and frolic!

So don’t feel you ever have to leave a family member at home when you come and visit us for your self-catering holiday!

Ramsey Island boat tour

We recently took our 4 year old and 6 year old on the Ramsey Island boat tour. I can honestly say it was one of the most wonderful experiences of our lives.

The children absolutely loved the excitement of travelling on the boat, which went really fast! It was such a special day for all of us. We saw all manner of ocean wonders – from dolphins, to porpoises, to other amazing aquatic feasts.

It made our children so interested in marine life and they now have a lot of books about the subject. The staff who looked after us on the boat were wonderful and very knowledgable. They were keen to answer questions and were great with our kids.

The whole thing lasted for around an hour and it went in the blink of an eye. We were even taken into a cave to look at some of the marine life that live in such conditions.

Overall, a joyous family day out. It cost around £100 but we really felt like we got our money’s worth. Especially given that you pay £100 going into almost any attraction these days.

We booked through Voyages of Discovery so we would really recommend them.

Just another amazing thing to do while in your self-catering holiday cottage that sleeps 6 in St Davids.

Heat wave!!!

Total wipeout! We’ve had one of the hottest summers on record this year in St Davids. Whoever said a holiday to Wales was a wet weekend has been forced to eat their Welsh rarebit words.

It’s been so wonderful to once again see the beaches packed and the restaurants overflowing with tourists and locals and visitors.

There’s a new fish and chip shop at the top of the town centre which was doing incredible trade. We happily waited a few minutes for our fish and chips while chatting away to people.

The cathedral and its surrounding area is looking so very beautiful too. The little stream that separates the cathedral from the bishops palace is like something out of a poem. My children spent hours splashing in it and having fun.

Every day we’d eat an ice cream and just pack the car up and head to Whitesands. The children just never get bored on the beach. There’s so much to explore.

So if you are looking for a self-catering holiday cottage that sleeps six, look no further than Yewdale Cottage. And don’t just take our word for it. We have an average 4.8 rating on Airbnb.

Happy summer y’all!

Bookings now open for 2026!

2026 promises to be a fantastic year for holidaying in West Wales. So please, drop us an email and we can get you booked in for your adventure of a lifetime.

The choice of things to do are quite remarkable here in Pembrokeshire. Our holiday cottage is self-catered and caters for all your needs. There’s a lovely electric fire where you can curl up with a book and a whiskey.

There’s so much to explore if you have young children – inside the cottage and out. The garden has wonderful cathedral views and is a great place for a bbq or a bit of rest and relaxation. It’s a real sun trap in the summer months.

Then there’s all the spectacular coastal walks and small fishing villages to explore. Not to mention the array of water sports and non water sports that are at your disposal. Who’s for tennis?

And did we mention the beaches? I suppose I could just answer that rhetorical question by looking at what I have already written…

*searches article*

No, we did not mention the beaches. There are lots of beaches with all manner of sand and also fish in the sea. There are rock pools which you can search for very small fish too.

St Davids, Pembrokeshire is such a wonderful place to visit and you will make memories that will last a lifetime.

So, unless we have a nuclear holocaust or a climate spasm, we look forward to welcoming you to Yewdale Cottage in 2026.

Looking forward to Christmas 2025

I know, I know, no one wants to think about Christmas when the sun is out. But as well as the sun, sea and surf in St Davids, Christmas is another wonderful time to spend a holiday in St Davids, Pembrokeshire.

We put up a lovely Christmas tree every year in our self-catering cottage that sleeps six. And the lights around the “city centre” are absolutely breathtaking. Plus, we have a warm, cozy fire to sit around and play gin rummy and drink gin.

There are so many beautiful events at the cathedral that you’ll feel like Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone. That bit where he goes to church and listens to the choir. That could be you.

Whether you want a romantic getaway or a family frolic, St Davids, Pembrokeshire is the place for you.

We start taking bookings around now for December so, although it feels like a long time away, now is a good time to act.

Give your friends and family a Christmas to remember – at Yewdale Cottage!
