Rain, rain, go away….

While it has been a bump back to earth with some of the terrible weather we are having, there is still so much to do around St Davids – even when the heavens are open!

Firstly, St Davids is a hub of art and culture. You only have to wander down the side streets to find art galleries and exhibitions that are free to enter. So many artists flock to St Davids for its beautiful views and soulful skies.

And then there’s always the cathedral to explore. It’s one of Britain’s most spectacular buildings and many powerful historical figures are buried here. It really is the jewel in the crown of Pembrokeshire.

As well as this, there’s a quite wonderful bug farm which must be visited. It is home to so many incredible species of insects and creepy-crawlies. You can even eat a bug burger, which is really tasty, if not a little smokey.

There’s also a really great children’s play area too. So there’s fun for all the family.

So don’t make excuses about the weather (which can sometimes be awful in the summer!) Come and book an out-of-season holiday in our beautiful cottage.

We promise you won’t be disappointed!!

The Wild Horses of St David’s Head

Last time we were journeying around St David’s Head on our usual pilgrimage, we came upon one of life’s most wondrous sights. Wild horses were roaming and frolicking and trotting around the sunsetting clifftops.

It was such a moment of divine spectacle that I had tears in my eyes. There’s something very mythical and spiritual about these hairy horses, guarding the cliff paths and quietly chewing on the cud of grassland.

They are actually owned by local farmers – so not as wild as one might think. They are still incredibly beautiful though and stay up on the hillsides whenever the weather will allow it. It is such a blessing if you ever come across them.

Of course you must also be very respectful of them. Under no circumstances should you try to ride the horses or smack their bottoms and shout “Giddy Up!”. This is just not in keeping with how you should observe a horse in the wild.

The thing to do is to put your hands behind your backs and then turn to your fellow walkers and say “aren’t they magnificent” while eating a kitkat.

So come and visit our wonderful holiday cottage where you can see such wonders. It sleeps six and is self-catered.

Pooches in Pembrokeshire

If you’re anything like us, then part of the joy of the holiday is watching your canine companion racing up and down the beach. The way they react to the waves and the sea is one of life’s true moments of happiness.

But there are certain restrictions on dogs in St Davids depending on when you visit.

The most dog friendly beach is Caerfai Bay, which is the closest beach to Yewdale Cottage. All season round you can bring your pooch and it’s not a problem. It is a little (and steep) walk from the car park so if your dog has mobility issues, it could be a problem.

Whitesands (for our money) is the best beach in the world (!) and ideal for dogs to come scampering up and down. However, the local council operate a no dogs policy from May through till September. This is when the beach is busiest.

But in general cafes and restaurants are very accommodating of dogs and you might even find they have treats especially for your furry friend.

We love dogs and would never stop you from bringing them on holiday. We do charge a little extra as often the cleaners have to work that little bit longer when there’s dog hair to clean up.

We also ask that the dogs are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs. But apart from that, the cottage is a paradise for dogs. There’s even a private garden outside where they can sunbathe and frolic!

So don’t feel you ever have to leave a family member at home when you come and visit us for your self-catering holiday!

Ramsey Island boat tour

We recently took our 4 year old and 6 year old on the Ramsey Island boat tour. I can honestly say it was one of the most wonderful experiences of our lives.

The children absolutely loved the excitement of travelling on the boat, which went really fast! It was such a special day for all of us. We saw all manner of ocean wonders – from dolphins, to porpoises, to other amazing aquatic feasts.

It made our children so interested in marine life and they now have a lot of books about the subject. The staff who looked after us on the boat were wonderful and very knowledgable. They were keen to answer questions and were great with our kids.

The whole thing lasted for around an hour and it went in the blink of an eye. We were even taken into a cave to look at some of the marine life that live in such conditions.

Overall, a joyous family day out. It cost around £100 but we really felt like we got our money’s worth. Especially given that you pay £100 going into almost any attraction these days.

We booked through Voyages of Discovery so we would really recommend them.

Just another amazing thing to do while in your self-catering holiday cottage that sleeps 6 in St Davids.

Heat wave!!!

Total wipeout! We’ve had one of the hottest summers on record this year in St Davids. Whoever said a holiday to Wales was a wet weekend has been forced to eat their Welsh rarebit words.

It’s been so wonderful to once again see the beaches packed and the restaurants overflowing with tourists and locals and visitors.

There’s a new fish and chip shop at the top of the town centre which was doing incredible trade. We happily waited a few minutes for our fish and chips while chatting away to people.

The cathedral and its surrounding area is looking so very beautiful too. The little stream that separates the cathedral from the bishops palace is like something out of a poem. My children spent hours splashing in it and having fun.

Every day we’d eat an ice cream and just pack the car up and head to Whitesands. The children just never get bored on the beach. There’s so much to explore.

So if you are looking for a self-catering holiday cottage that sleeps six, look no further than Yewdale Cottage. And don’t just take our word for it. We have an average 4.8 rating on Airbnb.

Happy summer y’all!
